Elementary School Feeder Pattern Realignment 2027-2028

As part of the Colonial School District’s ongoing commitment to providing the best possible educational experience for every student, elementary school feeder patterns will be realigned beginning with the 2027–2028 school year.

Over time, changes in enrollment, student needs, and educational programming have created capacity challenges in several of our elementary schools. This realignment will help ensure that all students have equitable access to high-quality learning opportunities while allowing the district to use its facilities and resources effectively.

Our goal is to create learning environments that are appropriately sized, well-resourced, and able to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of all students.

Why Is This Change Necessary?

Managing Capacity and Growth
Enrollment patterns across the district have changed over time. Some schools are experiencing increased enrollment and programming demands, while others have available space. Realigning feeder patterns helps balance enrollment and ensure that all students learn in schools designed to support their needs.

Supporting Modern Student Needs
Today's schools provide far more than traditional classroom instruction. Students benefit from specialized academic programs, intervention services, mental health supports, multilingual learner services, special education programming, technology resources, and enrichment opportunities. These programs require dedicated space and staffing that must be thoughtfully planned across the district.

Providing Equitable Access
Every Colonial student deserves access to high-quality educational experiences regardless of where they live. Realigning attendance boundaries helps ensure students have equitable access to programs, services, and resources across all elementary schools.

Preparing for the Future
This realignment positions Colonial to meet both current and future needs. By planning proactively, the district can continue to provide excellent educational opportunities while responding to changing enrollment trends and evolving student needs.

Our Commitment

Throughout this process, Colonial School District remains committed to:

  • Prioritizing student success and well-being
  • Maintaining strong school communities
  • Communicating openly and transparently with families
  • Making data-informed decisions
  • Ensuring equitable opportunities for all students
  • Supporting students and families through the transition process

As we move forward, we will continue to engage families, share information, and provide opportunities for feedback as we work together to support the success of every Colonial student. The Power of WE remains at the center of every decision we make.
